Stefano arrived with a big green bin of biscuits and the trailer containing table and gazebo. The gazebo was installed very quickly with the help of Jane and Jean. It was a welcome shelter from the rain which started almost immediately. The wind came too, so we tied it to a nearby bench.
Meade arrived with a good supply of maps, joining leaflets and so forth and passing cyclists soon stopped to see what was going on.
James turned up with another big bin containing a heater, kettle and various tea making paraphernalia. The hot tea was very welcome to the already chilled CCC personnel.
The rain came and went and came again in the form of hail stones, but the cyclists came too and many of them stopped. We also attracted a good number of walkers who were interested in the maps.
We gave out plenty of joining leaflets and managed to get two people to qualify for free T-shirts by enrolling on the spot. Eventually at about 6.30 we started to pack up, but there was great reluctance to take down the shelter and some of us waited for the rain to stop, which it didn’t do!
