|News from Councillor Sian Berry and the Green Party in Highgate ward)
The Holloway Road is being closed periodically for works on the bridge at Upper Holloway station. This is causing major disruption at Tufnell Park where the traffic is diverted, as well as concerns about pollution.
Along with my Green colleague, Islington Councillor Caroline Russell, I’ve been asking Transport for London to put more emphasis on asking people not to drive during the closures to help keep congestion down, rather than just giving info about diversions.
With Camden Air Action’s help, I’ve also put up a pollution monitoring tube at Tufnell Park to see how levels now compare with studies we have done at the same time in previous years. We’ll let you know the results.
Meanwhile, please be aware of the days when driving will be difficult and think about sharing lifts or travelling in different ways to keep traffic to a minimum.
Pedestrian access to shops and businesses will be maintained throughout the works, with the exception of safety-critical times over Christmas. Access for emergency services will also be maintained, and there’s a free shuttle bus service up the road to cater for people who aren’t served by diverted routes .
