Everyone loves a garbled diversion and we’re sure you’ll agree that the one pictured above is a beauty. It’s on Whitechapel Road on Cycle Superhighway 2.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
They’re digging up the East-West Cycle Superhighway to fix a leaking pipe between Blackfriars Bridge and Temple.
As Twitter user Matthew Sparkes points out, there’s no “cyclists dismount” for this diversion.

All neatly summed up in a single, thankfully brief, document:
“Maintaining Access: Wherever possible, access should be maintained for cyclists in both directions throughout the period of road works, avoiding more hazardous diversions.”
Perhaps the Whitechapel Road people haven’t read it.
