Dear Transport for London RE: ‘Have your say on the transformation of Oxford Street’ consultation I am writing to respond to the above consultation.
Q1. Do you support our proposals for the transformation of the Oxford Street district?
Yes (WITH IMPORTANT PROVISO)
If you have any comments on the proposals please explain them below
I support the plans for the complete removal of motor traffic from Oxford Street, 24 hours a day, and believe this is essential for the success of the scheme.
The entire route MUST be provided with cycle lanes since:
1) There is no alternative to this important east west link (that will create an essential cycling corridor from Old Street and beyond to Acton and beyond)
2) There is more than ample space available that would allow the minimum recommended 2.5m width for each lane (east and west) whilst providing pedestrians with the remainder.
3) It is important to provide a positive route for cycling within the appalling, motor-centric borough of Westminster (where proposed improvements to benefit cycling are routinely thwarted or disregarded at every stage).
