A National Grid Gas Governor has to be moved from a site in Kings Cross Station (where the gas holder currently stand opposite the coach road that runs under St Pancras Station) to a new site on the north side of Goodsway. New gas pipes have to be installed along a line under Brill Place, the coach road and then along the west side of Pancras Road and across Goodsway.
From Monday 10th January – end July 2011, southbound taxi and cycle access in Pancras Road will be closed between Goodsway and the coach road. However, a wide (2-2.5m) footway will be maintained for people who want to access Kings Cross Station from the north. Taxis will enter Pancras Road from the south and do a U-turn round a mini-roundabout by the entrance to the former Battlebridge Road. For longer southbound cycle journeys, it will probably be better to use Midland Road.
From end March – end July 2011, northbound access for all vehicles will terminate at the coach road. In other words, Pancras Road will be blocked by a barrier between the Car Park entrance and the coach road. Buses will use York Way. And that would be the default route for cyclists.
August 2011. Pancras Road will return to normal (southbound access for taxis and cycles only).
Dec 2011. Goodsway two-way access restored. The Boulevard opens – it runs from Pancras Road, behind the German Gym and up to Goodsway and over the new canal bridge into the railway lands. There is a good chance that taxis will use The Boulevard to access Kings Cross which should alleviate the old problems at the junction of Goodsway and Pancras Road.
