Songs of exultation in Church (Street)
Church Street in Old Isleworth was once a polluted rat-run and cycling and pedestrian ‘black spot’. Following the Save Church Street Campaign, which Cycling UK backed, the West London road is now a much more pleasant place to live as a permanent ban on motor traffic is imposed after a year’s trial. At the request of the campaign, Cycling UK sent a letter supporting the temporary scheme to Hounslow Borough Council. We’re delighted councillors voted to make the closure permanent last night. Church Street campaigner Vicki Barker said: “We were delighted with how quickly Cycling UK grasped the importance of our cause and how promptly you came to our aid! Within 24 hours we had messages of support for the permanent reprioritisation of Church Street from both your local and national branches, which helped us no end.” If you’ve a local campaign issue which you think could benefit from our support, do get in touch!
