Campaign For Better Transport)
The Government’s Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) gives grants for converting to electric cars and vans – but not to electric bikes. We think that’s a missed opportunity.
E-bikes are much cheaper than electric cars, so this would be good value for public money as well as fitting in with the Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy.
Back in 2015, the Government funded a one-off pot of £0.7M for electric bike schemes in some local authority areas: this is welcome investment, but only a fraction of the £900 million OLEV budget.
We’re calling on the Government to change the rules, and extend the scope of OLEV grants to include e-bikes and e-cargo bikes. Please take five minutes to write to your MP in support of the campaign to include fair funding for e-bikes in the forthcoming Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill.
And if you have examples of how e-bikes or e-cargo bikes have helped change your journeys for the better, we’d love to hear from you.
Call for fair funding for e-bikes
Please ask your MP to support a change of rules so that OLEV can support e-bikes as it does electric cars.
