A Wimbledon woman is taking on a task which sees her cycle every London Underground station covering 11 different tube lines to raise awareness of mental health issues.
Jayne Thompson, 33 of Plough Lane, Wimbledon will be taking on the challenge over the space of 5 days.
Having suffered with depression in recent years, Jayne will begin her journey from Morden underground station on March 26 and will be hoping to ride 70 miles a day in order to complete the challenge on Good Friday.
Jayne who only started cycling three years ago said: “Cycling has been like therapy for me over the last few years.
“When I’m riding my mind is free and I just enjoy it and don’t worry about life.
“The doctors do tell you that exercise can help with depression and cycling is a good treatment for me.”
Jayne is aiming to raise more than £1,000 in aid of Mind, a charity that provides support and advice to anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
Raising awareness of mental health issues is something close to her heart and that she is passionate about.
She said: “It was difficult admitting that I was struggling and needed help at first and I kept a lot of it to myself.
“Knowing that it’s more common than you think and that there are services there to help can make all the difference.
“Depression is very common and there is often a stigma of it, I want to stand up and make people aware of it.”
Having been born in Sunderland and moved to Wimbledon seven years ago, her challenge she will be participating in, will be an urban adventure for her.
She said: “I have not seen much in London, so this journey will be an adventure for me.
“I just hope that my mapping skills are up to scratch as I would hate to get to the end and realise that I’d only visited 269 of the 270 stations!”
Jayne will finish her journey at Wimbledon underground station on Good Friday and will be posting regular updates on her Facebook Page.
She has raised more than £200 so far, if you would like to support her challenge and donate visit http://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tubecyclechallenge
