This week’s Good Cycling Facility of the Week is a cycling- and walking-only bridge over a canal in Rijswijk, on the outskirts of The Hague.
Making these kinds of connections cycling-only is an important way of making cycling more direct and more convenient than driving – the nearest bridges across the canal for driving are some distance a way. They also serve to calm the streets the bridges connect to, by removing any through traffic.
This bridge also clear, separate space for walking and cyclng, with a footway on each side, and a cycle ‘road’ in the middle.
