  • Cycling is enjoying a widespread rise in popularity in the UK. Sadiq Khan, London’s mayor, says he wants to drastically increase space for bicycles and pedestrians
  • ‘Many Londoners have rediscovered the joys of walking and cycling during lockdown … By quickly and cheaply widening pavements, creating temporary cycle lanes and closing roads to through-traffic, millions more will be able to change the way they get around our city,’ says Khan
  • The lockdown has resulted in an increase in cycling across Scotland, too, according to a national monitoring scheme. Cycling Scotland’s chief executive, Keith Irving, says, ‘Many people are rediscovering cycling during lockdown, for exercise or essential journeys’
