Improving Open Spaces in Gospel Oak

Dates: consultation 24 march 2003; reply due 25 April 2003; CCC member dealing with it Paul Gasson.

The council is planning to create new open spaces in Gospel Oak at the following locations:

  1. Rhyl Street outside Rhyl School
  2. Talacre Road junction with Athlone Street & Rhyl Street
  3. Marsden Street at its junction with Malden Road
  4. Queens Crescent junction with Prince of Wales Road

Tentative plans at present include widening the existing road closures to create larger car free areas, lighting improvements, new trees, somewhere to sit, childrens play facilities.

Despite considerable abuse by motorcyclists, the council has so far agreed with our request to retain existing cycle access through the road closures at these locations. However it seems the Marsden Street cycle gap is under threat; whilst the proposed scheme includes a 2 way cycle track through the widened closure, this is listed as an optional feature.
