Grangeway Environmental Improvement

Dates: consultation 16 May 2003; reply due 16 June 2003; CCC member dealing with it Paul Gasson.

Consultation asks us to choose between two options A and B.

Both consists of a new raised table at the entrance to the park, new trees, relocation of recycling bay (optional) and increased lighting. The amount of parking remains unchanged

The only difference between option A and B is that option B would make Grangeway one way from Kilburn High road to Messina Avenue.

Given our opposition to one way systems we should recommend option A.

CCC’s response

We support option A, and reject option B (the one way proposal), and our preference for the location of the recycling units is between the trees in the carriage way.

We recommend the removal of the one way system on Messina Avenue. A no entry sign (with exception for cyclist) should be placed at the entrance of Messina Avenue from Kilburn High Road and a no left turn sign (again with exception for cyclist) should be placed on Grangeway at the junction with Messina Avenue. This would maintain a de facto one way flow of motor vehicles southbound on Messina Avenues allowing a two way flow of bicycles. Alternatively the current one way system could be maintained but a painted counter-flow cycle lane should be added on Messina Avenue. This would be a very useful route for cyclists and would involve minimal road engineering.
