At each local election we campaign to get pledges from all the political parties to make specific improvements for cycling in Camden. The campaign is usually coordinated with LCC but addresses local issues. The following are summaries of the last few campaigns with dates and titles; you can click on the titles to get more details.
2026: Streets for Cycling
Our Asks
- Completing the few cycleways left to be built across Holborn and the West End. These are top potential routes which would make thousands of daily journeys safer.
- Completing the East-West cycle route through Camden Town which would link Camden to Islington and Westminster and join up with the existing North-South routes.
- Extending the existing north-south cycle routes from Camden Town to Hampstead, Highgate and the boroughs to the north. This would put many more people in range of safe cycle routes.
- Making the roads in the north-west of the borough safe for cycling would mean that more people could cycle to and from school, shops, parks and places of work. Just three key cycle routes in the north-west of the borough would open up many more daily journeys for cycling.

2022: Climate Safe Streets Campaign
Our Asks
- Construct 5 km of new protected cycle lanes on main roads each year, to reach 44 km by 2026 and finish all the main roads for which Camden is responsible by 2030.
- Create 20 km of secondary routes by 2026, and a further 20 km by 2030, prioritising routes in the western parts of the borough.
- Construct three new substantial LTNs each year (e.g. each the size of the Arlington LTN) to reach an 80% coverage of possible neighbourhoods by 2030, with an intermediate target of 55% by 2026.
- Support the Mayor of London’s Netzero 2030 ‘Accelerated Green’ Plan (27% traffic reduction) & road user charging proposals.

2018: Responses to Council Elections May 2018 Asks
Our Asks
- Vastly improve conditions for walking and cycling throughout the borough so that people will choose to change the way they travel.
- Adopt a policy that will result within 8 years in a borough-wide cycling network that is safe, comfortable and accessible to all.

2014: Space for Cycling
Our Asks
- lowering vehicle speeds
- removing through motor traffic on minor/residential streets
- installing physically-protected space for cycling on main roads
- opening up our green areas for cycling
- creating safe cycle routes to schools
- improving London’s town centres to make them easier to visit by bike
Commitments
After a survey one of these asks was assigned to each ward and each individa=ual councillor was aswed to pledge. Foor several years LCC kept a record of these pledges and progress with their implementation.
