To celebrate the recent opening of the new cycle route in Midland Road, we decided to hold this year’s Cyclists Breakfast outside Camden Town hall
John and Helen arrived early (about 7:30 am) and set up the stall – one table with all the food and the other with maps and information.
Meanwhile Sam, Richard and Diego from Camden had set up their Dr Bike stands.
At first John and later Berwyn stood at the signals at the bottom of Midland Road, telling people on bikes that they should stop for a free breakfast as soon as they had crossed the junction.
As usual, many were in a hurry but plenty did stop, particularly if they wanted some services from the Dr Bikes. Our other helpers, George, Mary, Susan and Simon took turns trying to lure people to stop with plates of croissants. When they did stop we found that most people were very pleased with the new route.
Here are the cargo bikes brought along by to Sam, Richard and Diego

And here’s another happy scene at the stall
We did manage to give away most of the croissants, apples and cakes while we filled four pages with sign-ups for ours and LCC’s newsletters . The TfL maps are getting too aged to be of great interest but some people liked the laminated maps of the local routes (Q1 north, CS6 and CS3) all of which are easily accessible and combine to provide safe long-distance routes across Camden, e.g. Kentish Town to Tower Hill or Kentish Town to Hyde Park.
Thanks are due to Helen for organising it all, to John for helping to set it up and to George, Susan, Mary, Berwyn, Simon and Rachel for helping. It was good also to have the support of our Councillor Cycling Champion Julian Fulbrook.
