The children of Carlton Primary School have asked for a zebra crossing outside the school on Grafton Road to make it easier and safer for them to cross the road. By encouraging children and parents to come to school by bike or by walking, the problem of the school run
will be reduced. Furthermore, as part of the scheme, Camden Council would also like to improve the local street environment for local residents.
To improve visibility for the crossing and reduce obstructive parking, double yellow lines are proposed outside the school prohibiting any parking at this location.
New trees would be planted to provide shade and greenery.
Cycle stands will also be installed, for use by people visiting the school and for local residents.
CCC welcomed both the new cycle stands and trees, and pointed out that relative position of trees and cycle stands was important as it made it more difficult to reverse a vehicle up and steal bikes. We asked if we might make it more secure from a vehicle launched attack by putting up guardrailing alongside.
