The council is consulting on installing double yellow lines on either side of the width restriction in Lady Somerset Road at its junction with Fortess Road. The aim is to ensure that the cycle gaps through the width restriction are usable 24 hours per day (the current waiting restrictions allow car parking outside 8.30am – 6.30pm).
The yellow lines will run from the end of the parking bays in Lady Somerset Road, past the width restriction, and round the corner into Fortess Road.
CCC supported this proposal. We pointed out that we did warn the council some years ago when they first proposed the width restriction & cycle gaps that something was required to prevent obstructive parking. We also observed that adequate enforcement of the double yellow lines is vital if the gaps are to be usable by cyclists.
