CCC’s response
On behalf of Camden Cycling Campaign, I would like to say that we are very pleased that this first element of the work for Link 27 is already being consulted on. Having participated in the CRISP, it is rewarding to see the ideas taking effect.
Our members welcome the contraflow as an essential missing link in their eastbound journeys both from Gower Street and from Bedford square.
We have the following comments about the detailed design:
• All junctions on the LCN+ network should be equipped with ASL facilities for cyclists. Therefore, an ASL box and feeder lane should be implemented at the junction with Gower Street. The location of the feeder lane should take into account the needs of cyclists who plan to get over to the right on Gower Street and into Bedford Square as well as those that plan to travel down Gower Street.
• The proposed width of 1.5 metres for the contraflow track is the minimum recommended by the LCDS. Since this road has plenty of spare space and the contraflow section is long enough to need the ability to overtake, it is essential that the contraflow track should be at least 1.8 metres wide.
