Camden Council proposes to
- build a pedestrian refuge at existing zebra on Heath Street near the junction with Whitestone Walk
- relocate existing zebras on North End Way and Spaniards Road to “where the pavement is wider”.
- removal of lay-bys at the bus stops in Spaniards Road
CCC’s response
The Camden Cycling Campaign is disappointed about these proposals which appear to make only cosmetic changes to the position of pedestrian crossing and to the shape of the roundabout . These changes would bring at best only very minor changes to pedestrians and no improvement at all to cyclists. We have already pointed out in the previous consultation of the Whitestone pond that we would welcome the closure of Whitestone walk, we would like to see measures to reduce the speed of vehicles approaching the roundabout, and we would like to see a better solution for accessing the cycle lane on Spaniard road. None of our requests have been addressed and therefore we reject this proposal.
