Although Green Fair was cancelled, Bike Fest was held in Regents Park on the Broadwalk on 7th June.
It was Stefano’s idea that when Green Fair was cancelled, we should ask whether we could hold Bike Fest on the Broadwalk on the same day. Ruth Holmes of Royal Parks agreed to let us hold a Bike Fest on Broadwalk – advertised it as a “Healthy Living” event and arranged for plenty of big tents to be pitched near to the fountain. It was great to be under cover when the few showers came. No wet maps this time. No trouble with anchoring the gazebo against the wind.
You can see on the right the tent we shared with Westminster Cyclists and CTC – there was a bit of competition between LCC and CTC, but we managed to help many people with routes and let them have maps. Some of our visitors said they were interested in campaigning and yet more took LCC joining leaflets.
We tried out our new vertical banner but forgot to take a photo – if anyone has one, please let us have it. It seemed great although I gather that filling the ballast bag with water was a bit tricky.
Camden Council provided information on cycle training in the next tent and their cycle trainers provided Dr Bike the another tent. The Dr Bikes were very popular and had plenty of customers all day. Sustrans provided information on greenways and their other activities from yet another tent.
Bike Fix and Velorution had brought along some interesting bikes for people to try out. The Christiana child carrier (on the right) was very popular. But the strange Strida A-shaped bike (on the left) also attracted considerable interest.
