We carried out these counts so as to have a feeling for how many cyclists use Tottenham Court Road and how this should effect the planning of the proposed changes to two-way working in Tottenham Court Road and Gower Street.
Five people (1. George Coulouris, 2. Richenda Walford, 3. Jean Dollimore, 4. John Hartley, and 5. Stephen Taylor) carried out the counts. They stood at
1. TCR– Howland St – Capper Street, 2. TCR–Torrington Place, 3. Gower–Torrington Place, 4. TCR–Maple Street – University Street, 5. TCR–Grafton Street.
The red figures on the map below show the cycle counts.
Note that 732 people cycled on TCR between Torrington Place and Howland Street. Further north, about 140 people cycled on TCR. Gower Street saw about 240 cyclists.
