More than a dozen people, mainly families with children met up at the Sidings Community Centre in West Hampstead.
Around 2:30, Geoff led us out with the children at the front and we headed along Fordwych Road and Mill Lane and then via the good crossing over Finchley Road at the end of Lyncroft Gardens and then up the big hill towards Hampstead Heath. We were all impressed by the strength of the childrens’ legs on this challenge. We enjoyed the freedom of riding on Sandy Lane and then reached the Golders Hill Park Café for our first ice cream. We were joined here by David Arditti, Steven Edwards and family.
The second stage to Marine Ices at Chalk Farm started with a climb to Jack Straws Castle, then followed the main cycle path on the west of Hampstead Heath before descending via a long down hill through Gospel Oak to the stop. The third stage to an Ice Cream stop in Regents Park Garden Cafe is mostly down hill. The final stage back to the Sidings used Boundary Road, Abbey Road and Priory Road.
Total distance nearly 12 miles. Here’s a link to a map of the route. Photos by Geoff Stilwell. Full photoset on our Flickr account.
