Chris Boardman: “20m people in th eUK classified as inactive
at cost of £8 billion EVERY SINGLE YEAR
We enable people to use cars and we’ve made that the easiest form of transport
If we can just change the way that people move then we can
reduce the burden on the NHS
AND make people’s lives better
AND hit climate change
and 235 miles from where we’re sitting, 62% of all journeys are on foot or by bike
it’s utterly doable
it’s just over there
it’s standard
and we’re not doing it
it’s just a joined up piece of thinking
the bill gets bigger and bigger
people get iller, we’ve got type 2 diabetes , obesity all sorts of issues
that are related to not moving
and we could be tackling that and ticking all the other boxes at the same time
if we just did some joined up thinking..”
Fiona Bruce: “”..62% of journeys…whereabouts…?”
Chris Boardman: “235 miles Amsterdam
Copenhagen slightly further north
the rest of Europe basically has a more integrated approach to transport
Transport is our biggest polluter and one of biggest burdens on NHS is inactivity
…can bring it all together”
