Camden are consulting on banning motor traffic from the north side of Gordon Square outside the Institute of Archaeology (this part of the square has been closed on and off for the last few years for construction work). The proposals include:
- Closing the road in front of the Institute of Archaeology to motor traffic
- Adding a two-way cycle lane with a zebra crossing for pedestrians
- Creating a new public space with plants, seating and some bike parking.
You can see a plan here and a visualisation here.
In the longer term, Gordon Street will be closed to through motor traffic between Gordon Square and the Euston Road, as part of the HS2 station development. We will ask for this closure to be done sooner along with other measures to remove through motor traffic from the area (we have long campaigned for Gordon Street to be closed to through traffic).
