Camden are consulting on significant increases in the charges for vehicle parking, plus other changes, all designed to reduce the impact of motor vehicles and allow a fairer use of the kerbside. As well as increases for residents and businesses, the cost of visitor permits would vary depending on vehicle type and the maximum stay for paid-for bays would reduce from 4 hours to 2 hours (1 hour in some areas). Other measures include reducing the number of vehicles per resident’s permit from three to one and introducing petrol as well as diesel surcharges.
The proposals aim to discourage inessential use and ownership of motor vehicles and, where people have an essential need, to encourage the use of low emission vehicles. They would bring Camden’s charges up to among the highest in London (but lower than Islington apparently).
