Campaign for a Hampstead Lane safe cycling route “Every morning, hundreds of children are ferried in cars to schools in Hampstead and Highgate; I was one of these children myself, but when I was older, I decided to cycle to school instead, though the journey felt hazardous.
Once a pothole in the road sent me flying; luckily no one was driving immediately behind. Also a school friend was devastated when she doored a cyclist.
Now a parent myself, I dodge cars on my bike along Hampstead Lane, any spare road space taken up with parked vehicles.” – Monica Chakraverty, Campaigner

Possible’s vision for London’s newest Thames crossing For the first time in 30 years, a new road tunnel is being built under the Thames, connecting Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula in east London, but if these tunnels are open to private cars, there’s a risk that this will only increase car use in the capital.
In one of the twin bores, Possible propose a high quality walking, wheeling and cycling route with a lane reserved for buses; with the second bore, they propose an extension of the TfL network – from Canning Town on the DLR and Jubilee Lines to Kidbrooke south of the river.
This new link has the potential to carry 17-21 million passengers a year, eradicating huge car trip numbers.
Similar ideas were outlined in a recent report by Sian Berry AM of the Green Party and in line with the Mayor’s own transport strategy for 80% of trips in London to be made by active or public transport by 2041.

Cycling on Hampstead Heath Campaign – Green School Runs Green School Runs fully supports the City of London and the Heath & Hampstead Society in their efforts to protect and conserve the Heath. However, we believe that the local community would benefit greatly from opening up a few more routes for children and their carers to cycle during school hours. This would enable many families and young students to cycle through the park to their place of education, thereby increasing active travel and reducing congestion and pollution on the roads surrounding the park – which, incidentally, do not provide safe cycling facilities.
If you would like to get involved in this campaign, please email info@greenschoolruns.org

‘Emissions-based Parking and Road User Charge should target SUVs’ – Report As SUVs have become more popular among the richest households, the “historic link” between low incomes and polluting cars has been broken and reversed, according to climate charity Possible who argue that the social justice arguments against charging motorists according to how much they pollute have been “first nullified and then overturned”- the rise in SUV use strengthening the case for carbon emissions-based parking and road user charging. TAN win Judicial Review of DfT Walking & Cycling Budget cuts Transport Action Network have won the right to legally challenge the DfT’s decision this year to cut its walking and cycling budget by over 50%.
Lawyers for TAN argued that ministers made the decision oblivious to legal requirements; in particular, ignoring climate, air quality and equalities duties.Hight Court judge Mr Justice Jay gave permission for a full hearing, saying this was “potentially an important case” concerning a legal provision that had not been looked at before.
DfT lawyers were forced to disclose slides highlighting how the cuts would devastate sustainable travel in most of England’s local transport authorities.
TAN is seeking to crowdfund £40,000 to pay for its legal costs.
