Jean Dollimore in London Cyclist Special Issue on Women & Cycling Interview by Melanie Etherton
How it started: I retired in about 2000 and wanted to do something interesting
Having patience: When you see little bits on the road that you think you might have caused to happen, it’s a really nice feeling. There’s a one-way street just up from us that’s just gone two-way for cycling and I was so pleased. I think we first asked for it in about 2009.

Critical Mass London 30th Birthday Ride: Sunday 14 12pm meet at Southbank (under Waterloo Bridge) for 1pm start
3pm : After Party (bring a lock)
Critical Mass London began on 15th April 1994, as the CHARM ride, occupying space around dangerous roundabouts in central London.
It morphed into the Critical Mass ride, mirroring the “last Friday of the month” occurrence of US
It still endures, taking place every month without fail, an unbroken line for three decades and celebrating the diversity of cycling in this city.

News from the Streets March 2024 Excerpt: Phoenix Road is on the route of the Euston Wellbeing Walk and the C41 cycle route.
A new trial ban on through-motor traffic on Phoenix Road between Chalton Street and Werrington Street is implemented on an 18-month ETO with bollards and planters full of blossoming spring flowers.
This is perhaps the most beautiful road closure we have seen.

London Cycle Network Quadruples from 2016 The capital’s Cycleway network has quadrupled in length since 2016, from 90km to more than 360km, Transport for London (TfL) said.
Cycleway 4, which links central London and Greenwich, is now complete, with a new section connecting Rotherhithe, Surrey Quays and Deptford.
In the past 12 months, 20 new Cycleway routes have opened, connecting more than 600,000 Londoners to the cycle network.

Kentish Town Bike Workshop – 13 May Held at Kentish Town Health Centre, Bartholomew Road, NW5 2BX on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
One participant’s response: “As well as making me feel welcome, they helped fix the problems with my bike and I learnt a few things as well. This is a really good initiative and it takes the stress off doing the mechanics. Plus it makes my cycling a lot safer, now the brakes are working properly. It felt like I was cycling on a brand new bike this morning :)”
It’s free of charge. Sign up for monthly KTBW notifications.
