Camden propose to create a motor traffic free section of Camden High Street from the junction with Parkway and Kentish Town Road to the junction with Jamestown Road and Hawley Crescent (see below). This would be an 18 month trial.
Northbound cycling would be allowed. Northbound motor vehicles, including buses, would use Kentish Town Road and Hawley Crescent.
According to Camden’s Transport Strategy this is the first stage in a wider scheme that would extend the pedestrian/cycling zone north to the junction with Castlehaven Road/Chalk Farm Road. This would connect with the protected lanes on Chalk Farm Road and would allow southbound cycles to avoid the gyratory system of Hawley Road/Hawley Crescent/Jamestown Road.
It appears to be a good start, we will have comments including asking for southbound cycling to be allowed, for local access and because all roads should be two-way for cycling.
We also have concerns about the junctions of Hawley Crescent at Jamestown Road and at Kentish Town Road.
