To help patients to find their way from St Pancras station to the new site of Moorfields Eye Hospital at the southern end of St Pancras Way, Camden proposes a walking route along Midland Road, Pancras Road and St Pancras Way with a green line marked on the pavement and Legible London wayfinding signs
The green line will be on the east side of St Pancras Way and Pancras Road and on the west side of Midland Road (where the eats side pavement is too narrow for a green line). They are linked by the existing signalised pedestrian crossing over Pancras Road to the north of Midland Road.
The consultation includes the following proposals
- Provide seating along the walking route
- Raise the existing zebra crossing on Midland Road outside St Pancras Station (which will provide access to the green line opposite)
- Introduce a new mini zebra crossing on Midland Road over the cycle track and the taxi rank outside St Pancras Station for access to the nearby bus stop.
- Provide continuous pavements on Midland Road at the junction with Brill Place (already approved) and on Royal College Street at the junction with College Place. The drawing also show one at Chenies Place.
- Convert the existing zebra crossing over Pancras Road by Goldington Crescent into a parallel crossing (which should help visibility of NB C6 route). Note The bike side leads directly into the cut through into Goldington Crescent. Are we still concerned about the sharp angle of the left turn into Goldington Crescent. See https://maps.app.goo.gl/tsegabTqMbNDYNFo8
- Provide a bus stop bypass for the southern stop on Royal College Street (which is like a SUBB without markings). See https://maps.app.goo.gl/39MtG9XHCiKHuPu66
- Relocate the Chenies Place SB bus stop bypass (see here https://maps.app.goo.gl/sW5ZdnUKSQjo7bhP7) further north on Pancras Road (where there is more room and it’s nearer to Moorfields new site
- Change the traffic signals timings where Pancras Road meets Midland Road to make it easier and safer for people to cross the road. See https://maps.app.goo.gl/7MYnhDuk6UEeWzs56 Note – opportunity to revisit the workings of this junction? NOTE also the route plan says “The timing of the crossing would be extended, if feasible, to allow additional time for pedestrians to cross the road.” So probably all spare time(if any) goes to pedestrians .
