The August quarterly update covers a considerable array of major new schemes,  as well as smaller measures, all playing an important role as Camden progresses its cycling network.

Major projects include:

• the Haverstock Hill scheme (upgrade completed at last!) – running for just over one kilometre from Prince of Wales Road to Pond Street. The trial wand-protected tracks were completed in 2022. Dutch kerbs (used on the side roads) first appeared in Camden in Bloomsbury Way in 2023, followed by Prince of Wales Road and elsewhere. They work perfectly with stepped tracks at footway level.

Camden are to be congratulated for completing this scheme to a very high standard.

Finishing touches and smaller projects include:

• Prince of Wales Road eastbound approach at Grafton Road
• Angler’s Lane approach to Prince of Wales Road
• Bucknall Street – total cycling permeability in an area between New Oxford Street & St Giles High Street
• Somers Town mobility hub in Charrington Street – one of several being installed to provide a mix of sustainable and active shared mobility modes (may include shared bikes, car clubs, cargo bikes & e-scooters as well as community features like cycle parking, seating & planting or play areas, water fountains and other place-making amenities)

Some positive letters (for a change!) have been featured in the Camden New Journal over the summer months.

Of three letters, two were from committee members:

• myself (Steven), in response to criticism of Camden’s High Street improvements, and
• Peter Marsh, who responded to further criticism by recommending that those who want more cars on our streets should look at the facts and evidence!
• Sakhr Al-Makhadh, of Our PATCH campaign group, wrote about the need for a solution to the rat-running problem in the Dartmouth Park area, calling on Green council members to assist with a neighbourhood-wide plan.
