Jane, Stefano, Richard, John and Helen were outside the British Library by 7.20 am in time to set up stall before all the early commuters came past. Anne and Jean arrived when it was all set up. Paul Davis and Beverley from the Camden Travel Plan section were there too to help with the stall.
Soon all comers were crowding around our stall for free maps, croissants or bananas and a convivial chat; some even used John’s services as Dr Bike.
We were soon joined by the Ruth Jones and her children Joshua and Matt who are only 8 and 6 years old, but ride bikes everywhere. This is probably their fourth visit to our breakfast; and then there was the dog. As soon as we had entertained and fed one group, another came up. It is very enjoyable to meet new cyclists – one said it was her first day to ride to work. It’s also good to talk to the regular visitors, particular the contingent of Barnet Cyclists.
Each year we wish that we had counted the number if visitors; It must be several hundred each time.
Dr Bike was well-appreciated by one parent and child and the police on cycles were very welcome too. Thanks are due to Jane who organised the event once again – how many years is it now?
