The cyclists breakfast on Wednesday of Bike Week is now in its eleventh year. As usual it was organised by Jane Boardman with strong support from Richard Fletcher and Stafano Casalotti. The Green Travel people (Paul Davis and Beverley) from Camden Council as well as several CCC volunteers helped to greet the callers at the breakfast table.
The table was set up at 7.30 with an array of London Cycle maps at one end, joining leaflets and CCC brochures in the middle and all the edible goodies at the other end.
We were able to field quite a number of enquiries about dangers spots and poor road surfaces – for example, we were asked about the infamous Baynes Street where a cyclist was killed two years ago and at last a new scheme seems likely to be consulted on soon; we were also asked when something will be done about the crossing over Euston Road by Ossulston Street (a reminder to chase up TfL). And apparently the road surface in Eversholt Street is diabolical.
Our visitors seemed pleased to be able to get hold of the new edition of the cycle maps and we’re beginning to get used to the new roles of numbers anon, 7 and 14 which centre on our borough.
But chatting and eating seemed to be as popular as ever: a second breakfast of banana and croissant being a good reward for cycling into work.
We were glad to see some parents and children and then there were those who rushed past.
