CCC Response to Traffic Order
The Camden Cycling Campaign supports the London Cycle Hire Scheme with great enthusiasm.
Probably the most important point of the proposed scheme is that it should increase the number of cyclists in the Zone 1 area. It has been shown that there is Safety in Numbers
, for example, in London cycling is up 91% since 2000 and there is a 33% fall in cycle casualties since 1994-8. See the recent report from Cyclists Touring Club (CTC) at:
CTC Report on Safety in Numbers
Many potential cyclists are afraid to start using their bicycles because they perceive it as a dangerous activity – which it is not, when compared with other activities. They may be encouraged by seeing an increase in cycling and in hearing that it has become even safer.
We therefore support the provision of Cycle Hire Stations at all of the locations on the list. We now have the detailed consultation documents and will attempt to reply to each one.
