LB Camden proposes to improve cycle accessibility in the Kings Cross Area by introducing two-way cycling in the full length of Duke’s Road. This will be supported by signage indicating contraflow cycling at one end and ‘No Entry except cyclists’ at the other end.
Duke’s Road forms a link between Euston Road and the N-S route either through Cartwright Gardens or Flaxman Terrace and Bidborough Street. It is also a useful link in eventually achieving a route parallel to Euston road on the south side – the next step would be the ability to cycle through Woburn Walk. Finally, it will allow for crossing Euston Road into Churchway, although northbound can be perilous due to the southbound buses – all the same this is a useful route.
CCC’s response
This response to the consultation from Camden on the proposal fortwo-way cycling in Dukes Road from Camden Cycling Campaign, the local borough group of London Cycling Campaign (LCC). We have over 600 members and represent the interests of cyclists living or working in the borough of Camden. We consulted our members by email on this issue and this response reflects the views of the membership.
We are very supportive of this proposal for the following reasons:
- Duke’s Road forms a link between Euston Road and the N-S route either through Cartwright Gardens or through Flaxman Terrace and Bidborough Street.
- It is also a useful link in eventually achieving a route parallel to Euston road on the south side – the next step would be the ability to cycle through Woburn Walk.
- Finally, it will allow for crossing Euston Road into Churchway, although northbound can be perilous due to the southbound buses – all the same this is a useful route. As mentioned during the site visit, we would like to see the northbound stop stop line placed nearer to the junction with Euston Road.
Please would you acknowledge receipt of this response; if you prefer a written submission please let me know. We would be very happy to discuss any aspect of our response.
