Camden are consulting on a Healthy School Streets scheme that would cover Ferncroft Avenue, Kidderpore Avenue and Kidderpore Gardens in West Hampstead. Motor traffic would be banned between 7.45 – 9 am and 3 – 4:15 pm, Monday to Friday during school terms. We think that the afternoon hours should be longer.
This map shows the extent of the scheme.
There would be exemptions available for residents of the streets affected and for parents of children at the school who are Blue Badge holders.
In addition, Camden propose to:
- Permanently widen the pavement on Ferncroft Avenue at the junction of Kidderpore Gardens and extend the existing raised section of road.
- Plant two trees and add cycle stands on the previously widened pavement on Kidderpore Avenue outside St Luke’s C of E school.
These proposals would require two car parking spaces to be removed.
As with other recent Healthy School Street consultations, the traffic restrictions cover an area larger than the immediate vicinity of the schools, to stop neighbouring streets being used as drop-off points. Maybe in future these roads can be free of motor traffic 24/7!
